Good morning, Gastown

good morning, gastown
Often on the way to work I see the beautiful light in Gastown and think I should, some weekend, get up early enough to snap a few shots. I took advantage of my current jetlag this morning and headed downtown just before the 7 o’clock sunrise. Even though the morning sky was a beautiful blue, this picture just felt better in black & white. Enjoy.

Photography Round-up

I promised my longtime friend, Alison Wonderland, that I would finally post about a few photography achievements. While I like to share my images with my readers, I am loathe to brag but Alison kindly reminded me that my blog is for exactly whatever I want it to be and I should most certainly share some of the cool photography happenings.

So without further ado …

This photo was chosen yesterday by Ubuntu to be included as wallpaper in their new Linux operating system release, Natty Narwahl.

This is East Van is a community photography project that has compiled images of our beloved East Vancouver to publish in a book. With approximately 1500 submissions and only 100-some images chosen, I am so pleased to be included in this project.

Expect the This is East Van book to be for sale in April at
Make It Vancouver. Book launch party at the Waldorf on May 5th!

The Vancouver Darkroom Co-op recently held a small exhibition with the theme Dream Logic. My very first photos printed and hung in this gallery exhibition in February were:

Finally, in the works is a cover shot for the new Azedume publication, a Brazilian arts & entertainment magazine. The exact image hasn’t been decided just yet but may well be this one taken in a Sao Paulo street.

12 MANIFESTOS FOR THE CITY
invites you to imagine and innovate; what is the future of Vancouver? Where did this city come from and where is it going? A wonderful collection of ideas and inspirations from some obviously very clever people.

Is it me or is it just spring?

The groundhog said just 2 weeks ago that we could expect an early spring. While there is snow in the air and doubt in my mind, I refreshed my apartment with some cheery blossoms. Here’s hoping the groundhog was right!

Despite the snow, I am very happy to be home again. I snapped this picture of False Creek, Vancouver in August and it reminds me of how much I love this city! Ahhhh …. ♥

International Art in the Redlight

I recently had the chance to visit “De Oude Kerk” in Amsterdam where Emptiness? an international art exhibition put on by Stichting Art in the Redlight was being held. Installation art made up a good part of the exhibition complimented by various forms of art on canvas including one of my favourites: ballpoint pen on canvas seen below by Roger Loos; installation below by Concrete.

Emptiness? is showing until December 5th and costs 7 Euros for entry.

Happy Diwali & My Favourite Indian Eateries

In honour of Diwali and my true love of Indian food, I’ve decided to share a list of my favourite Indian restaurants in world. Dishes like palak paneer, aloo gobi, mutton masala & samosas are like comfort food to me and no matter where I travel to, I can always find genuine Indian hospitality and a good chef!
I had some excellent food pics to share with this blog post but lost them when my iphone was stolen in Rio de Janeiro recently; so you’ll have to make do with the links below and share your own photos sometime! (Lesson: sync everything, always!)
In no particular order, my favourite Indian restaurants are:
Moti (Tokyo)
Tandoor (Taipei)
Tandoor (Sao Paulo)
The Taj (Seoul)
Baba India (Seoul)
Mumtaz (Berlin)
Khan (Zurich)
Musafir (Istanbul)
I had a brief love affair with my neighbourhood Indian bistro, Heavenly Bites in North Burnaby, which sadly closed last year due to family illness. More recently I’ve been frequenting Simply Curries in Vancouver which proudly supplied the Olympics with samosas!
Happy Diwali & Bon Appetite!
