Me, My Dad & My Hawkeye ♥

This tried & true Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash camera was given to me by my Brother who acquired it somehow from our Dad. Dad picked it up in the late 1950’s as a young, Dutch immigrant guy living & farming in Southern Alberta. Seeing that I love this camera so much and tote it around faithfully from country to country, I thought I would share with you some of my favourite Brownie Hawkeye photos from around the world.

I ♥ my Dad to bits and he’s going to be 70 soon, so in his honour, I’d like to show you a very cool picture of him from his younger days!
(Not taken with the Hawkeye unfortunately.)

PS – Recently Kodak asked me to do a guest blog post about my travels and my little piece of Kodak history.  Have a look!

Photography Round-up

I promised my longtime friend, Alison Wonderland, that I would finally post about a few photography achievements. While I like to share my images with my readers, I am loathe to brag but Alison kindly reminded me that my blog is for exactly whatever I want it to be and I should most certainly share some of the cool photography happenings.

So without further ado …

This photo was chosen yesterday by Ubuntu to be included as wallpaper in their new Linux operating system release, Natty Narwahl.

You can see the other selected wallpapers on the Web Upd8 blog here or on My Technology Guide here.

This is East Van is a community photography project that has compiled images of our beloved East Vancouver to publish in a book. With approximately 1500 submissions and only 100-some images chosen, I am so pleased to be included in this project.

Expect the This is East Van book to be for sale in April at

The Vancouver Darkroom Co-op recently held a small exhibition with the theme Dream Logic. My very first photos printed and hung in this gallery exhibition in February were:

Finally, in the works is a cover shot for the new Azedume publication, a Brazilian arts & entertainment magazine. The exact image hasn’t been decided just yet but may well be this one taken in a Sao Paulo street.

Copacabana & Christ the Redeemer

I took my trusty Brownie Hawkeye Flash with me to Rio de Janeiro this month. Armed with a roll of Fuji Pro 400H and the intention of exploring multiple exposures, I set off to see the Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado mountain. As I was staying at a hotel in Copacabana, I had the opportunity to take 2 doubly exposed frames of the same scene: Cristo Redentor on Copacabana beach.
